The size of TV that you decide to buy can be a very personal choice, but you may be interested to hear that there are some technical measurements that A/V designers use to help find the best screen size for any given room.

Speaker-Placement

Measure the distance from your normal viewing chair to the TV in inches, then divide by 3 to give you a good starting point for a modern widescreen TV (eg. If you sit 96″ from the TV, you need at least a 32″ screen). For older “square” CRT televisions, the distance would usually be divided by 4 to give the minimum screen size.

There is no reason why you can’t go for a bigger TV than the size given by this formula, but we would not recommend using a smaller TV as this can lead to eye strain and give poor viewing quality.
