A guide to cabling for Beolab 50 and Beolab 90 speakers
November 2015 saw the launch of what is possibly the World’s best loudspeaker – the Bang & Olufsen Beolab 90. Developed as a flagship model to celebrate the company’s 90th birthday, these ground-breaking speakers feature technologies including Active Room Compensation and Beam Width Control to allow the speakers to adapt fully to any room or listening position. This was followed in August 2017 with a smaller speaker intended to bring many of these advances to a wider audience – the Beolab 50.
Sounds Heavenly’s audio cables are optimised for use with high performance speakers like Beolab 90 and Beolab 50, as they use fully shielded oxygen free copper wiring for low signal loss and high sound quality. Our analogue audio cables and 75 Ohm co-axial S/PDIF cables meet the specifications recommended by Bang & Olufsen in their Beolab 90 and Beolab 50 Technical Sound Guide for optimal performance with their flagship speakers.
Due to the wide range of inputs available on Beolab 50 and Beolab 90 speakers, Sounds Heavenly can provide cables to give the best possible performance from a wide range of audio inputs. We have listed some examples below to show how the speakers can be connected. In each case, the audio cables will run to the Master speaker, with an RJ45 Powerlink cable connected between the Master speaker and the Slave speaker:-
To convert an existing Beolab 5 installation to Beolab 50 or Beolab 90 where the speakers have S/PDIF and Powerlink inputs (eg. Where used with Beosound 9000 or Beomaster 5), all that is required is a Powerlink to RJ45 converter at the Master speaker to convert the existing Powerlink cable to RJ45 (the existing S/PDIF cable will connect directly to Beolab 50 or Beolab 90 without any alteration required):-
For a new installation with a B&O music system or TV (earlier models with 8 pin DIN Powerlink outputs), simply use one of these cables to the Master speaker:-
For a new installation with Beosound 9000 or Beomaster 5, please also add an S/PDIF cable to the Master speaker:-

For a new installation with a B&O music system or TV (later models with RJ45 Powerlink outputs), simply use one of these cables to the Master speaker:-
To send analogue audio from a non-B&O music source with RCA outputs, please use two of these cables to the Master speaker:-

In each of the examples above, the same RJ45 Powerlink cable will be connected between the Master speaker and the Slave speaker (as shown in the first link above).
Each Beolab speaker will require its own mains power connection, standard mains power cables can be used for this purpose as there is no advantage in using upgraded mains power cables.
Multiple input connections can be left permanently connected to the Beolab 50 or Beolab 90 Master speaker, as you can choose between the input connections using your B&O remote or the Beolab 50/90 app.
